The Bitterman Lab is grateful to have been awarded a new R01 from the National Cancer Institute for AI-CChaSE: AI-enabled Cancer CHatbots for Symptom Education.

This 5-year project will develop new methods and benchmarks for guideline-grounded cancer chatbots that improve symptom education and communication. The work focuses on improving factual question-answering about symptoms, simplifying complex guideline and electronic health record content for different end users, and studying patient and clinician needs to support user-centered chatbot design.

We are excited to pursue this work with collaborators including Harry S. Hochheiser and Guergana K. Savova, while keeping patient and clinician stakeholders centered throughout the research.
